Superhero Cyborg 2.0: A Design Education Workshop
DESIGN THINKING, YOUTH DESIGN WORKSHOPS
about the project
The Superhero Cyborg 2.0 workshop was organized and co- facilitated by local non-profit, KIDmob, Maya Kremien and myself, both CCA graduate design students at the time. Empowered by inclusive design we originally came to KIDmob with idea to bring their east coast workshop to San Francisco. Autodesk sponsored and hosted the workshop at their maker studio. Over the course of five days, kids between the ages of 10 and 15 worked with design experts and engineers to brainstorm ideas. The workshop connected children with upper-limb differences with professionals so that they can design and create their own custom-made prosthetics. Kids learned design thinking, TinkerCAD, Fusion 360 and many other design activities to help inform their creations. They casted their upper limb differences to help build their superhero prosthetics. See images below from the workshop.
continuing the partnership: the iron women
Post the Superhero Cyborg 2.0 Workshop, makers partnered with participants to continue to build more high fidelity versions of their prosthetics. In collaboration with Veronica (15-year-old high school student with prothesis) Maya Kremien, Aaron Levine, and myself developed a new weight lifting prosthetic for her under utilized limbs.
