HUMAN-CENTERED DESIGN WORKSHOPS

overview
100 TechWomen from all over the world gathered in the Autodesk Gallery for an Impact Design Summit that helps unite female emerging leaders that are tackling global challenges. The 2018 Impact Summit was a day where emerging leaders came to learn, collaborate and feel empowered.

about the project
Organized in partnership with the TechWomen leadership, the 2018 Design Impact Summit Day held at Autodesk Gallery empowered 100 TechWomen emerging leaders from over 20 different countries such as Algeria, Kenya, Cameroon, South Africa, Uzbekistan, Sierra Leone and more. They came to learn about Autodesk 3D software, human centered-design, and hear from industry speakers including Autodesk’s VP of Sustainability, Lynelle Cameron. Guest speakers included Acumen’s Jo Opot, Fast Forward’s Shannon Farley, D-Rev’s Robin Parrish and more. The day was organized by a super team of women including myself, Chantal Jaeger, Janice Wong-Perez, and Ishita Jain.
My role focused on the designing human centered-design workshops for the 100 TechWomen participants.
I organized 10 groups with 10 women each, distributing 2 design facilitators per group. The workshops focused on learning how to apply empathy around a relevant challenge statement, and generating many ideas through a creative matrix. Groups had to vote on 1 idea and present it out to the 100 women. See above video and images below.
the workshop challenge statement
How might we help 5 million in the 20 TechWomen countries develop strategies to solve a common problem?
More specifically a common problem impacting entrepreneurialism, education, public health, or environmental sustainability…
